skip to content welcome to balla's blog just another wordpress site scroll down to content posts posted on february 1, 2018 february 1, 2018 bukit keluang, terengganu (20/1/2018) hill top view of bukit keluang (anatomy) general info :- (1) the hike :- (a) location :kuala besut, terengganu (b) height : approx 200m (c) duration : total : 1 hour (round trip) ascending : 20 – 30 mins descending : 10 – 15 mins (d) difficulty : easy (2) reaching there :- since i started my journey fom kuala lumpur,i took the karak highway ( lebuhraya pantai timur) as soon as you reach terengganu,look for exit 865 (kuala terengganu) after taking the exit,turn left towards jalan kota bharu-k.terengganu follow the road for about 72.5km and take a right turn to jalan tembila keep going for 8.7km and turn left towards jalan kampung raja-kampung che go on ahead for 5.5km and turn right. after 800m, turn left to jalan keluang and then continue for about 180m and turn right continue ahead for 1.7km and turn right to jalan bukit keluang you will soon see a signboard “bukit keluang” and an old bus stop.that’s the starting point of the hike. (3) others :- (a) parking : f.o.c (with a small area of parking space to accommodate around 5-10 cars).however,there is a free area all around the starting point.so,it is not exactly a problem to park the cars. (b) bathroom/toilet : none (but within around 200 – 300m away from the starting point,towards the beach – there is a public toilet at the beach) – it’s rm0.20 per entry.not very clean though.it can accomodate anyone who wants to take a shower too.but,bear in mind,it does’nt look clean at all. (c) fees : none additional info :- -there’s no need for a guide as the trail is quite easy and short. -at a few points,ropes are attached to assist the climb -you don’t have to crack your head over this hike.its an extremely short hike. -there’s two entry point; one starts with a flight of stairs,continued by the trail. the other trail just starts with a normal pathway(starts from the bus stop) interesting info :- -provides a breathtaking view by the beach.you get to see the nearby island,facing the south china sea and the sea itself -if you are the selfie crazy type or the type who enjoy snapping lots and lots of nature pics,well,this is the right hike for you (operation) mission: ascending: 1.25 pm – started the hike 1.35 pm – reached the 1st and the only check point. 1.40 pm – left the first check point 1.55 pm – reached the open area,just about 100-200m away from the summit.took our own sweet time to snap alot of pics. 2.10 pm – went further towards the peak, 2.15 pm -reached the peak descending: 2.45 pm – started descending 2.55 pm – reached the car park dissection of the journey(part by part): 1.25 pm we started our journey late as it was pouring prior to the hike;so much so that we had to opt for another activity/outing that led us to a short trip around kenyir lake.then,we decided not to let this hike go just because of the weather.hence,the delay as the journey from kenyir lake to this place took us almost 2 hours.we were lucky that the drizzling stopped just before we reached the starting point. the entry point of bukit keluang after snapping the picture to mark the “opening ceremony” of this hike,we started our hike.the path was situated to the right from this entry point.even from the very beginning,the path was filled with small rocks and pebble like rocks along it.but that makes it easier for the shoes to grip,not the usual slippery path. view from the back (just after the beginning point) though,i would’nt underestimate the hike just because it provides us with some proper grip as it started with a fairly steep slope.for the faint hearted or the beginners,the steepness the path portrayed in the beginning might be enough to dampen someone’s spirit to continue the hike.honestly,it looks tough compared to what it actually is. view from the front (just after the beginning point) it was steep indeed,but we decided to continue as we assumed that it’s gonna be similar like our previous hikes where the journey is just the beginning.regardless of the troubled steepness,we went on slowly but steadily; anticipating another gruelling struggle to reach the top. once we reached the point (pic above), we took a left turn and went ahead.thereafter,the path was not too steep but with considerable gradual slant.we continued slowly,taking our time as we were already tired by the long journey from kl (we left at 4am) and the kenyir trip prior to the hike. the tough looking trail before we realised,we have already reached the first check point ( a hut) 1st check point rootstairs!! at the check point, we took rest for a few minutes and went ahead almost immediately as we felt that we reached the checkpoint way too soon after we have started the hike.immediately,we came upon the ‘rootstairs’.basically,its a formation resembling stairs that is entirely made out of tree roots along the way up.it was not for long as we felt the “rootstairs” ended as soon as it started. the journey continued with more and more roots paving the way both as a support and as obstacles for us.although,it feels like it was a long steep way up,intermittently there is flat ground to ease up the hike. in a blink of an eye,we did’nt realise that we have reached what we thought was the summit.cheated yet again because of the view the place presented us with together with the wide area.anyone could have been easily cheated as you were already mesmerized by the beauty of the nature that you simply don’t have the time to notice anything peripherally. centered by the picturesque panorama of the south china sea with a faint view of the adjacent island coupled with the sound of curls of foamy waves racing against each other before hitting the shore left me barely standing there inhaling,infusing the intoxication of what nature has to offer. well,no wonder i could not really realize that it was not the summit.as i stood there stunned by the nature,my cute niece started her piece of work – pictures!! once we were awakened from the realm of our own fantasy land,we continued our remaining tiny bit of our hike to the peak.we walked just a few paces and we reached the peak in no time.we spent the time snapping loads and load of pictures as our reward after a long day (considering the journey all the way from kl in half a day). path from here to the peak at the peak,there was a cabin placed as a resting point which could easily accommodate about 30-40 people.if anyone ever had the idea of doing an unique bbq party,this summit will fit the purpose in its own way.no one is gonna be disappointed.instead,it will be a new experience and environment in such a wonderful soothing environment. mummy and daughter show off time! tired and stranded at the peak magnificent view view from another side after spending a good half an hour at the summit,we opted to start descending as it started drizzling.the last thing we wanted is to get wet as i was already exhausted (no proper sleep prior to the journey,left at 4am,a long drive accompanied by rain,a round trip to and from kenyir- about 4 hours and then only we started the hike). posers!! unfortunately,from a mild drizzle,it started to pour.what started off as a gentle,careful descent ended up becoming an interesting jogging cum sprint along the trail. y? well,the reason was simple; we wanted to get to the car park before the anticipated thunderstorm,because we could’nt see properly(spectacles was wet and making is blurry for us to see anything ahead), and more importantly,the hair gel started staining my eyes.i was already having difficulties seeing ahead due to the rain and my specs,adding up the spice was the burning sensation of my eyes thanks to my hair gel. us after reaching down succesfully so,we (me and my nephew) started storming down the trail to reach the car park as soon as possible,followed by my sister and my niece.it took us just about 10 minutes to
